Weekly Wrap Up 1-22-24

Last week under the section “What makes a good pregame?” it was incorrectly stated that the clock should be kept running for JV games. However, this is NOT an NFHS rule and varies based on the school district. Referees should clarify during their pregame discussion with coaches of the school district’s policy on JV games when it comes to stopping the clock, as well as how much time should be played for each half. According to UIL, all high school level games (both JV and varsity) can be played with halves up to 40 minutes, depending on the district and if scheduled with ample time between games.
