HSSOA Mercy Rule In Action
This year a new mercy rule was added by UIL as follows:
“At 20 minutes or beyond in the second half of play, if one team has a goal differential of +8 goals or more, the game would be stopped and declared as final.”
So far referees in HSSOA have applied the rule 91 times from 2,784 games, 3.2% of the time. 52 times this was in favor of the home team and 39 times for the visiting team. One third of the games were boys and two thirds for girls.
