How Scrimmages Work

Districts or schools pay the chapter (not the referees) for scrimmages and the referees are credited $10.00/hour towards their assigning fees from the chapter.

Before the scrimmage ask the coach if the district is paying mileage. If so fill out the school’s pay sheet with your information so they can mail it (the payment for the mileage) directly to you. Be clear that it is for mileage only and note on the pay sheet that the scrimmage fees will be invoiced by HSSOA. This really helps the accounting people, especially when their bosses haven’t told them about the different pay schedule for scrimmages. You will help the schools keep themselves out of trouble. Most schools recognize that they are helping the referee and pay for mileage. See the mileage page to see current rates.

Note how long you worked. If it does not reflect correctly on the website you need to send the assignor and registrar an email so you can be credited and the schools can be billed accordingly.

If you do get paid for the game fees from the district, notify the secretary immediately so we can straighten out the bookkeeping. Please return the payment to the school district, minus mileage if they paid it. DO NOT ACCEPT THIS PAYMENT. By doing so, you will be opening the school up to action from UIL.

Even if you are staunchly against doing these scrimmages, please consider taking a few. The assignors have a LOT to give out. As a help to the referees, we will credit referees for scrimmages that occur every 1/2 hour. We will credit you for 1 assigning fee per hour (in addition to the $10/hour) if you send us an email in early January. This is so that you don't pay for two assignments per hour. Please remember that these will be credited to your accounts, to defray assignment costs.
